Cartera Commerce Holds Third Annual Community Day of Service
Company More than Doubles Number of Employees Lending a Hand to Those In Need In Boston and Atlanta
Lexington, MA, May 2, 2012 - Cartera Commerce, the leading provider of card-linked marketing solutions, today announced it will hold its third annual Cartera Day of Community Service on Thursday, May 3rd, with more than 200 employees participating to help those in need in Atlanta and Boston. In partnership with Open Hand Atlanta, Cartera employees will take a break from their day jobs to help prepare, package and deliver food in Atlanta. In Boston, Cartera employees will commute into Hyde Park to help City Year Boston on a beautification project at the Hyde Park Education Complex.
"When we started our Day of Service in 2010, we had 35 employees participate. This year we'll have nearly six times that many, with 200 Cartera employees taking a day off from work to lend a hand to those in need in our communities," said president and CEO Tom Beecher. "The evolution of this event speaks not only to Cartera's rapid growth, but to the willingness and enthusiasm our employees have to better their communities and help those in need. While it's only one day, it helps improve the lives of others in Atlanta and Boston, and gives our employees a unique opportunity to give back."
Open Hand Atlanta's Prepared Meals Program provides freshly cooked meals, combined with snacks or supplements for low-income men, women and children who are dealing with a critical, chronic, or terminal disease; and homebound seniors. The Cartera team will be working on sorting, preparing and delivering nutritional meals throughout the day. From culinary and preparation work to packaging and delivering meals to clients' doors, employees will assist in every aspect of Open Hand's program to feed those in need.
In Boston, Cartera employees will be working to restore a building that was originally opened in 1928 as Hyde Park High School. The school, which later became the Hyde Park Education Complex, was closed at the end of the 2010-2011 academic year. This coming fall, the facility will re-open and serve as two new high schools. The Cartera team will partner with City Year to harness the power of volunteers to repaint the entire complex and ensure that these two schools are moving into a building that is fresh, full of life, and one they proudly call their own.
